The session was graced by the esteemed presence of Advocate Sweta Pareek from the Rajasthan High Court, a distinguished legal expert with an illustrious career spanning over 18 years. Her profound expertise extends across multiple domains of law, including writ petitions, service law, consumer disputes, arbitration, and criminal matters. Notably, she has served as Panel Counsel for several prestigious organizations such as the National Council for Teacher Education, Punjab National Bank, and the Jaipur Development Authority.
The event commenced with a warm and traditional Tilak Ceremony to honor the guest. Prof. Ruchi Jain and Dr. Aditi Jain, Head of the Department of Business Studies, extended a heartfelt welcome, presenting Ms. Pareek with floral greetings and a memento as a token of appreciation.
In a uniquely captivating manner, Ms. Pareek introduced herself through poetry, seamlessly blending her love for words with her distinguished legal profession. This artistic introduction reflected her profound passion not only for law but also for the beauty of expression through verse.
The core of the session revolved around the "Vishaka Guidelines," established by the Supreme Court of India in the landmark case of Vishaka and Others v. State of Rajasthan (1997). Ms. Pareek eloquently traced the evolution of these guidelines, which laid the foundation for the POSH Act, 2013—a pivotal legislation addressing sexual harassment in the workplace. She provided invaluable insights into distinguishing welcomed and unwelcomed behaviors at the workplace and emphasized the importance of fostering a professional environment that upholds dignity, safety, and respect.
Furthermore, Ms. Pareek elucidated the roles and responsibilities of the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), detailing its investigative procedures, confidentiality protocols, and support mechanisms for complainants. The discussion was enriched with real-life examples, offering students a practical understanding of different forms of sexual harassment—verbal, physical, and psychological—and their legal implications.
The session proved to be highly engaging, with students actively participating in discussions, raising pertinent questions, and sharing their perspectives. They found the insights shared by Ms. Pareek to be both enlightening and profoundly relevant to their personal and professional lives. The event successfully fostered awareness, empowering students with the knowledge to contribute to a safe, inclusive, and equitable work environment.
